The Black Keys' Patrick Carney reveals full four-minute Bojack Horseman theme

The Black Keys' Patrick Carney airs the full four-minute version of the Bojack Horseman theme, and explains the tune's origins, in the latest Song Exploder episode.

Bojack Horseman is a ludicrously dark comedy about a washed-up '90s sitcom actor who is a horse. It's set in a surreal version of Earth where anthropomorphic animals co-exist with humans (it's never explained why) and stars Will Arnett, Aaron Paul, Alison Brie, and Paul F. Tompkins. Watch the trailer for season one.

The show's theme is a warped, bubbly synth tune that gradually evolves into a filthy late-night '80s jazz jam.

Carney composed the track with his uncle Ralph - a multi-instrumentalist with a ridiculous CV that includes work with Tom Waits and St. Vincent. The pair discuss how it all came together (the show's producer Noel Bright also jumps in) as well as giving the full track an airing.
