808, the documentary about the iconic drum machine Roland TR-808, is getting released through Appl Music and iTunes later this year.

808 has already been screened at a selection of festivals, including SXSW last month and in London last August (8/08), but will now be available "worldwide exclusively on Apple Music and iTunes later this year".

The documentary, which looks at the story of the groundbreaking device and its subsequent legacy, features contributions from Pharrell, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Questlove, The Beastie Boys, Rick Rubin, Damon Albarn, David Guetta, Phil Collins, Diplo, New Order, Fatboy Slim, and more.

You Know Films and Atlantic Films have produced the doc, which is executive produced by Alex Noyer and Arthur Baker. Speaking about the film, Atlantic Records head honcho Craig Kallman (also a producer), says: “It’s only appropriate that a film about a machine that revolutionized how music is made be seen via a service that revolutionized how music is consumed.”

You Know's CEO - the aforementioned Noyer - adds: “I’m very proud on behalf of the whole You Know Films team to see 808 find its release on Apple Music. For our film to be offered as their first narrative music documentary is very humbling. The 808 continues to make history.”
