Taylor Swift's new Netflix documentary Miss Americana has been announced as the opening film for Sundance Film Festival 2020.

Swift's Miss Americana documentary was originally mentioned by Swift when she posted a statement regarding the Big Machine label bosses and their attempts to deny her from performing or using old songs for new projects or shows.

She wrote, "Netflix has created a documentary about my life for the past few years. Scott and Scooter have declined the use of my older music or performance footage for this project, even though there is no mention of either of them or Big Machine Records anywhere in the film."

Big Machine Records' denied Swift's claims soon after, writing, "At no point did we say Taylor could not perform on the AMAs or block her Netflix special. In fact, we do not have the right to keep her from performing live anywhere. Since Taylor’s decision to leave Big Machine last fall, we have continued to honor all of her requests to license her catalog to third parties as she promotes her current record in which we do not financially participate."

Last night (4 December), Netflix posted a still from Swift's new documentary, and revealed it's directed by Lana Wilson. The synopsis reads: "A raw and emotionally revealing look at one of the most iconic artists of our time as she learns to embrace her role not only as a songwriter and performer, but as a woman harnessing the full power of her voice."

Miss Americana will also open the Sundance Film Festival 2020 on 23 January 2020.

Earlier this week, Taylor Swift was confirmed as a headliner for next year's BST Hyde Park show series. Find out more.
