Tame Impala shoot out surreal 3D visuals for "'Cause I'm A Man"
Tame Impala have unveiled the weird and wonderful CGI vid for "'Cause I'm A Man", a preview of upcoming LP Currents.
Speaking about the track/video, Tame Impala mainman Kevin Parker said:
“Lyrically I’m not usually that out there and straight up saying things, but it’s meant to be really tongue-in-cheek at the same time. The song is about how weak men are, basically, and how we make all these excuses but really we’re just these odorous male members of the animal kingdom.
“It's meant to be kind of sassy and tongue-in-cheek to some degree. It's meant to sound kind of sexy, but I don't know if that's how it comes across, with its laid-back beat. I'm really putting myself out there vocally more than I have before. I usually bury my vocals and sing quite ethereally and stick in a laser beam melody washed in reverb. I just love that dreamy, silvery vocal sound.”
L.A.'s Weirdcore directed the clip, and added:
"Visually for me, the video is like a kind of homage to Hipgnosis artwork, as I feel Tame Impala’s music is suited to that look and feel. Tame Impala’s new artwork was a great inspiration for the vibe of it. I happily threw in as many artwork cameos as I could from that. Technically the constant moving camera was an ideal way to show near non-moving scenarios, long takes and minimal editing is something I’m always into doing. This is the first 3D video I’ve made where none of the 3D was modelled for it. All assets were either bought/found/acquired/customised from various sources, so it’s a bit like a 3D collage."
Currents is out 17 July. It follows 2012's Lonerism.
