New survey reveals one in three musicians are earning nothing since COVID restrictions lifted
A new survey conducted by UK charity Help Musicians has revealed that one in three musicians still aren't earning anything since COVID restrictions were lifted back in the summer.
Based on a survey of 929 musicians back in August, Help Musicians found that 83% of those artists have been unable to find regular work since COVID restrictions were eased, with 22% considering giving up music completely.
As BBC reports, one in three musicians are still earning nothing since the lifting of restrictions, and nine in 10 were revealed to be earning less than £1,000 a month.
The UK charity, which distributed £18 million to nearly 20,000 musicians during the pandemic, also revealed that there's been a 60% increase in people contacting them for mental health support.
Help Musicians chief executive James Ainscough said, "We recognise that for some musicians, it will take a long time to rebuild and the team at Help Musicians will continue to be available to those musicians who find themselves in real crisis over the months ahead."
