Stream Kind Of Blah, the second LP from lo-fi country-garage duo Frog, on Best Fit
Queens (NYC)-based twosome Frog, comprising Dan Bateman and Thomas White, are streaming their new LP Kind Of Blah on Best Fit.
Back in March we premiered one of the record's singles, "Judy Garland", which we said was a "wonderfully energetic, infectious summer tune". It's semi-representative of the record, in that the intoxicating brew of alt. country and dog-eared garage pop remains, but there's lots more to discover. There are plenty of other moments on the record that stray from their own path: "King Kong" is part noise-doo-wop, where swooning atonality reigns supreme, and part lo-fi indie; "All Dogs Go To Heaven" is low-rumbling post-pop; "Irish Goodbye" features twinkling banjos and dreamy Americana soundscapes.
Recorded in a disused bowling alley, the duo said that the LP was "an attempt to engage modern musical ideas from a 1950s style of arrangement, and was a complete failure in that respect but a success in most others.”
They also talk of being influenced by Miles Davis, Silver Jews' David Berman, "sad" Frank Sinatra and Stanley Kubrick.
Kind Of Blah is out via Audio Antihero on Monday 25 May. It's the follow up to Frog's 2013 eponymous debut.
