The BBC are set to celebrate Britpop Week next month, marking 20 years of the genre with a revival of Steve Lamacq and Jo Whiley’s 90s radio show, The Evening Session.
“For me, this is the week 20 years ago that the musical tectonic plates shifted,” Lamacq said in a statement. “On the Tuesday, Oasis played live on Radio 1 for the first time and on the Friday morning we heard the news of Kurt Cobain’s death. It was as if one scene had announced it had arrived, as another began to lose its way.”
Britpop At The BBC will run from 6-11 April, with The Evening Session airing nightly on BBC Radio 2. Details about other special programmes set to be aired can be found here.
