Stephen Hawking covers Monty Python for Record Store Day 7"
Yep. In what must be one of the more bizarre Record Store Day releases, Stephen Hawking, the esteemed physicist, has covered "The Galaxy Song" by Monty Python.
The track first featured on the comedy collective's film The Meaning Of Life, and like many of their sketches and skits, has received a cult appreciation in the time since its first airing. The video that accompanies the new version of the single features clips of the Python crew throughout the ages, as well as a star-hopping Hawking who in the course of the clip mows down Dr. Brian Cox and flies across the sky in a rocket-wheelchair.
You can also play a browser mini-game where Hawking and the Pythons are interjected into the classic videogame Asteroids. Check it out here.
Hawking's rendition of "The Galaxy Song" will be limited to 1000 7" copies, and is set for release on Record Store Day (18 April). It's available now digitally.
