Spotify announces closure of Upload Beta Program
Independent artists will have to find distributors for Spotify as the streaming service announced the closure of its Upload Beta Program.
In September 2018, Spotify started allowing independent artists upload their music directly to Spotify. Today, the streaming service has announced the feature will close, and independent artists will have to find a third-party distributor to get their tunes on the streaming service instead.
On their news site, Spotify writes, "We’re working with our distribution partners to help make this transition as simple as possible for the artists who uploaded music through the beta. At the end of this month, we’ll stop accepting any new uploads through Spotify for Artists, and artists will need to move their already released content to another provider."
The streaming giant has also shared that they plan to send discount codes for Spotify's preferred distributors to independent artists that have used their Upload Beta Program.
