Having merged with EMI late last year, Universal are said to be selling the latter company’s share in the ‘Now That’s What I Call Music!’ brand.
The compilation series, which started back in 1983, was previously shared by both Universal and EMI, but due to an agreement with the European Commission regulators, Universal must now sell EMI’s share to sustain fair commerce.
Sony are said to be the forerunner among “several interested parties”, with Sky News saying that they’re preparing a multi-million pound bid.
Now! will release their 84th edition on 25 March 2013.
