Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin named Cultural Ambassadors to Russia
Andrew WK made the headlines earlier this week when he announced he was heading the Bahrain on behalf of the U.S Government, only to have the invite withdrawn less than a day later. But now it seems the US State Department have found someone more suited to this take in the form of Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin.
The Missouri indie-pop fourpiece will head to Russia as Cultural Ambassadors for the United States, playing a gig at the Old New Rock Festival in Ekaterinburg during their visit.
The band, named after the former President of the Russian Federation who died in 2007, will play the Boris Yeltsin Foundation sponsored event.
On the news, the band’s Philip Dickey said:
“People used to ask us if Boris Yeltsin knew about us. This is the closest we’ve come to answering that. And the ambassador part. I hope I can use that on my résumé — an ambassador for America for one day.”
The gig takes place on 13 January 2013.
