slowthai unveils cover of Elliott Smith's "Needle In The Hay"
slowthai has shared a cover of Elliott Smith's "Needle In The Hay" that he recorded as part of a Apple Music Home Session.
Following the release of his second album TYRON last Friday (12 February), slowthai has returned with an unlikely cover of Elliott Smith's "Needle In The Hay".
His cover of Smith's 1995 single "Needle In The Hay" was recorded for an Apple Music Home Session. slowthai also performed his own track "adhd" for the Home Session.
slowthai revealed to Noisey back in 2018 that he discovered Smith's track after watching The Royal Tenenbaums.
According to Stereogum, slowthai said of his Apple Music Home Session, "The lyrics to both tracks mean a lot to me. "adhd" because I feel it’s inward-facing and "Needle In The Hay" because that song got me through a lot of down days."
Earlier this week Christian Lee Hutson, Francis Lung, Marissa Nadler, Blaenavon, Kevin Devine and more contributed Elliott Smith covers to a new charity compilation raising awareness and money for LGBTQ+ rights.
