Shamir unveils first single of 2022 "Reproductive"
Shamir has kicked off 2022 with new single "Reproductive", which arrives as the latest preview of his Heterosexuality album due out next month.
"Reproductive" follows last year's "Cisgender" and "Gay Agenda" singles, and is accompanied by a Will Schaeffer-directed video that sees Shamir playing the song with a live band.
Speaking about the new track, Shamir explains, ""Reproductive" is a song that holds many meanings. It’s not as thematically poignant as most of my other songs. It’s a lyrically dense lament that touches on highly personal grievances such as generational curses, karma, and love."
Heterosexuality will be Shamir's first album since 2020's Shamir.
Shamir said of the album last year, "I think this album is me finally acknowledging my trauma. Everyone knows I’ve been through so much shit and I kind of just rammed through, without really acknowledging the actual trauma that I do feel on almost a daily basis."
As well as preparing a new album, Shamir appeared on Oberhofer's "SUNSHiiNE" with The Strokes' Nick Valensi in October last year.
