Saint Etienne share new single "Penlop"
Saint Etienne have unveiled new single "Penlop", which lands as the second preview of their I’ve Been Trying To Tell You album.
"Penlop" is the second single to be shared from I've Been Trying To Tell You, following last month's lead outing "Pond House", and is teamed with a Alasdair McLellen-directed video.
Saint Etienne's Bob Stanley says of the new release, ""Penlop" is one of my favourite songs on the album. Sarah's vocal makes me think of a travel guide, walking you around your half-remembered memories of the late nineties. Pete's production on this is wonderful, I like the way it bursts wide open at the end, like someone breaking through from the past into the present day."
I've Been Trying To Tell You will follow the group's 2017 album Home Counties, and was largely created from samples from the years 1997-2001. It also marks the first album where Saint Etienne didn't record together in a studio; instead they recorded remotely from Hove, Oxford and Bradford with help from film and TV composer Gus Bousfield, who contributes to two tracks on the record.
The group's new album will also be accompanied by a film directed by photographer/filmmaker Alasdair McLellan. The film, which has the same title as the album, will premiere at NFT1 at BFI Southbank on 3 September.
