Rick Ross has waded in on the George Zimmerman verdict debate, not by condemning the ‘Stand Your Ground’ law in concert like Stevie Wonder and others, but instead by turning the whole thing into a song.
‘I Wonder Why’ sees Ross, recently criticised for advocating date rape in his lyrics, comparing his upbringing to that of murdered black youth Trayvon Martin, before warbling “Stand your ground!” to a dark, brooding backdrop.
The end of the track even samples a recording from the trial, lending from the verbal testimony of Martin’s childhood friend Rachel Jeantel.
