Red Hot Chili Peppers are currently recording a new album with John Frusciante
Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith has confirmed they're currently recording a new album with returning guitarist John Frusciante.
Last month, Red Hot Chili Peppers revealed that longtime guitarist John Frusciante was rejoining the band after leaving a decade before.
He last worked with the group on their 2006 album Stadium Arcadium, and yesterday (8 January), RHCP drummer Chad Smith confirmed they're already working on a new record.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Smith said, "I was given strict orders for this interview: ‘DON’T TALK ABOUT THE BAND'. But, yes, John is back in the band, and everyone knows that. We’re psyched. The festivals are the only shows booked. For now, we’ll mostly be concentrating on new songs and writing a new record. We’re all real excited to make new music."
He went on to clarify that the band are currently recording new music.
When RHCP announced the return of Frusciante, they also revealed the departure of Josh Klinghoffer. Klinghoffer joined Red Hot Chili Peppers as a guitarist in 2009, but had been a longtime friend of the band, often touring and playing keyboards on stage with Frusciante and co.
Their I'm With You guitarist has been associated with many great acts over the years, including Warpaint, Gnarls Barkley, Dot Hacker, Cate Le Bon, The Black Keys, and many others.
