Radio 1 live-tweet playlist editorial meeting
Yesterday afternoon (6 February), BBC Radio 1 live-tweeted their weekly playlist editorial meeting as part of the station’s current ‘Access All Areas’ initiative.
The meeting, which decides what tracks get airplay and how much each week, was promoted via Twitter using the hashtag #R1playlist, with the staff revealing their choices to readers.
Some results of the meeting include Dizzee Rascal, Wiley and Laura Mvula all getting promoted to the A-list, Jake Bugg, Muse and Example making it into the B list, while The xx were placed in the C list for their track ‘Sunsets’,
A list tracks are played three/four times a day, B listers twice a day and C-listed songs are guaranteed to be played daily.
Meanwhile, the likes of Wild Belle, Drenge and, more notably, Hurts missed out on making the playlist, being rejected by staff live on Twitter.
