R. Kelly recording “a lot of country music”
Hip-hop and country music have been mixing in a terrible way recently but that hasn’t stop one R. Kelly, who has revealed he’s been “writing a lot of country songs” as of late.
“My talent is more than just sexual songs,” the R&B star recently told Vibe. “There was a time I desperately needed for the world to know that I was no category guy.”
But should this all come as a surprise from the man who invented the hip-hopera? R. Kelly himself doesn’t think so.
“I used to get criticized for doing a ‘Bump & Grind’ then turning around and doing a gospel song. But the truth is I’m glad I have a gift that allows me to switch lanes,” he said, adding: “My whole goal in life was to reach that certain success where people will say, ‘Hey, that guy can do anything. He’s the Evel Knievel of music. He’s jumping over 15 buses!’”
