Pussy Riot interviewed on U.S TV, feature in new lingerie advert
Members and associates of Russian protest movement Pussy Riot have been interviewed on U.S TV, featuring on the latest episode of CBS’ 60 Minutes.
The programme features interviews with formerly-imprisoned member Yekaterina Samutsevich, pictured left above, as well as with the group’s drummer. Also featured are interviews with Pyotr Verzilov, husband of jailed member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, along with former chess champion and political dissident Garry Kasparov.
In the clips, the individuals discuss the circumstances around the initial arrest, conditions of their imprisonment and their continued aims.
Last year, three members of the punk band were found guilty of “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred” and were sentenced to two years in jail following the performance in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. The song requested that the Virgin Mary drive Russian president Vladimir Putin from power.
Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22 (pictured above), Maria Alyokhina, 24, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 30, have been named prisoners of conscience by Amnesty International. Samutsevich was released in October.
Meanwhile, German underwear manufacturers Blush have unveiled a new commercial using the band’s name, image and cause to try and sell lingerie.
