Pusha T to use Joaquin Phoenix rap beat on new album
Kanye affiliate, Pusha T is prepping his delayed new album My Name Is My Name for release, recently sitting down with Vibe to reveal that it’ll feature a Joaquin Phoenix sample.
The record, Pusha’s debut studio effort, was originally slated for a July due date but has since been pushed back. Now, the rapper has revealed that among the “tweaks” he’s making on the LP is the use of a beat Kanye sent his from Phoenix’s film I’m Still Here.
I’m Still Here, directed by Casey Affleck in 2010, was a mockumentary that saw Phoenix supposedly give up his day job to pursue a rap career. Now it looks like the actor will actually achieve his pseudo-dream.
“As soon as I heard it, I was like, ‘Listen. I hope you’re not playing this for me just to show me how good this beat is’,” Pusha said, continuing to say that he wants to use it on his album’s intro.
