[Premiere] The Phoenix Foundation – Flock of Hearts
Beautifully strange, the new video for New Zealanders The Phoenix Foundation‘s ‘Flock of Hearts’ is simultaneously psychedelic and understated, just like the track.
Proving that charming songs needn’t be twee, ‘Flock of Hearts’ avoids the cloying faux-naivete that so often comes with similarly sweet pop songs. The major key, glockenspiel and psychadelic organ could have swamped the track in sugar, but there’s a sense of restraint, as well as a melancholia to the vocals more akin to the world weariness of Richard Hawley, than the ingenuousness of Noah and The Whale.
‘Flock of Hearts’ is taken from the album Buffalo, which is out now.
