Oceaán to release new EP called The Grip
Manchester-via-Brussels producer Oceaán, AKA Oliver Cean, has announced the release of new EP, The Grip, on Chess Club 17 November.
Cean explains his EP:
"‘I wanted to explore the duality between lyrical context and conceptual production. Taking influences from many facets of electronic music, my main aim was to investigate the effectiveness of songwriting within the electronic plane - whether it be marrying a lyrical concept with similar tonal aspects (inherently present within the production), and more importantly, creating and displaying disparity between them."
Writing about lead track "Grip" on the site last month, Melanie Battolla said: "“Grip” starts off with Zen glass-like percussions that seem to hold the pace amongst sweeping sounds and an increasingly invasive electronic beat. Minimalistic keyboards also bleep away quietly as a modified vocal sample arrives with springy excitement. The track's increasingly intricate beats thump and ball into a hyper uplifting chiming of synths before slowly dissipating into unsettling syncopation."
