Notting Hill Carnival won't take place on the streets for second consecutive year
Organisers have announced that this year's Notting Hill Carnival will not take place on the streets of West London for a second consecutive year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This morninng (18 June), organisers of London's Notting Hill Carnival shared a statement on socials confirming that "this year's Carnival will not be on the streets due to the ongoing uncertainty and risk COVID-19 poses."
Organisers added that "safety has to come first" and that due to the uncertainty following the recent lockdown exit delay and the short amount of time to prepare, "we must refocus our efforts for 2021".
2021 will mark the second consecutive year that Notting Hill Carnival won't take place on the streets. Last year's event was moved entirely online, and organisers added that they are "working towards alternate events that will allow everyone to safely celebrate everything Notting Hill Carnival stands for."
