New petition urges government to provide financial aid to events industry
A new petition has been launched in an attempt to get the UK government to provide economic aid to the events industry following the coronavirus outbreak.
The spread of coronavirus has resulted in thousands of events being cancelled or postponed around the world. As well as sporting, film, tech, and gaming events, the music industry has been hit hard, with many festivals and artists pulling their events to avoid large gatherings, resulting in a significant financial loss.
The petition has accumulated over 36,000 signatures already, and states, "The UK events industry is facing an unprecedented challenge as a result of the Coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak, and the events that have been cancelled as a result. The industry is worth more than £14 billion to the economy, with 25,000 businesses supporting over 500,000 employees—all of whom are nervous about whether their next event will go ahead or not, and how their income may be affected."
