New music from The Weeknd later today?
Today just might see the release of the long awaited second ‘mixtape’ from Toronto R&B wunderkid The Weekend.
Since it was announced that title of Abel Tesfaye’s follow up to March’s House of Balloons is titled “Thursday”, every fourth day of the week has seen the web – and Tasfaye’s Facebook page in particular – awash with rumour, expectation and the inevitable disappointment when Friday comes around.
The last 24 hours have seen the fever amped up with the posting of a picture by the man himself showing a balloon with “Thursday” scrawled on it (above).
Abel Tesfaye’s first nine song mixtape House of Balloons was released free on the web and received massive acclaim from both on- and offline press . The record samples the likes of The Cocteau Twins, Beach House and Sioxsie and the Banshees and has been shortlisted for the 2011 Polaris Music Prize. We called it “an inviting reminder that dark matters are engaging and synonymous with a swagger that draws on peers of yesteryear as well as the present.”
This second mixtape is a part of a trilogy and will be followed by Echoes of Silence sometime in the autumn.
