Neko Case argues with audience members recording her gig on their phones
The backlash against gig-goers filming concerts on their camera phones has never been stronger, with the likes of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Savages, Eleanor Friedberger and even Beyonce hitting out at smartphone-wielding audience members in recent times. Unsound Festival in Poland went as far as banning photographic equipment altogether, with the crowd opting to paint and sketch performances instead.
Now, Neko Case has entered the debate, with reports from her recent show in Cincinnati describing a hostile reaction to fans recording her entire concert on their mobiles.
CityBeat say that Case “stopped the show and asked everyone to stop taking photos with their phones because the flashes were bothering her”. Adding: “Case’s reaction was met with a mix of cheers and boos; some people got really bent out of shape about her protestation”.
“A woman came down the aisle towards the stage and took a photo before immediately being escorted out by security… the singer was apologetic to the non-heckling/non-photo-taking fans throughout the show”, the reports continues, saying that the singer threatened to walk off stage at several occasions.
Neko Case’s latest album, The Worse Things Get, the Harder I Fight, the Harder I Fight, the More I Love You was released earlier this year.
