Nas helps raise $40,000 for single parent who lost apartment in fire
Rather than using crowdfunding websites to pay for his next album or tour like many other musicians, Nas has launched an online benefit to help raise money for a family who recently lost their Washington, DC home in a fire.
Touched upon hearing the story of single parent Stanley Young, Nas launched a Crowdtilt page calling to fans for donations to help the man and his eight young children.
“Stanley Young is an unemployed construction worker and single father. Two weeks ago, a fire destroyed his home. His family is stuck in a hotel, but time is running out,” the Queen rapper writes on the page.
“I am also a single father, and we don’t get enough credit in this country,” he continues. ”I believe and hope that we should all, as a community, come together to help our fellow American men and women when they need us in desperate situations like this.”
The project aims to raise $50,000 for the Young family to put a down payment on a house, with Nas offering $5,000 of his own money. It currently stands at just over $40,000, with 9 days left to reach the target.
