Music Week name Reading and Leeds as 'Festival Of The Year'
The winners of the Music Week Awards 2020 have been announced, with Reading and Leeds named as 'Festival Of The Year'.
Although the annual ceremony couldn't take place due to COVID-19, the Music Week Awards 2020 winners have been unveiled.
Reading and Leeds won 'Festival Of The Year' - a surprising choice considering they haven't attempted to achieve an equal gender split across their lineups.
Across the 17 top acts last year, only three of them were female - Billie Eilish, Stefflon Don and Chvrches - neither of which played a closing set on the main stage. The main headliners for 2019 were The 1975, Post Malone, Twenty One Pilots and Foo Fighters.
Organisers have approached the 2021 lineup with a similar mentality it seems, as they've failed to book a female headliner once again, and have instead invited Post Malone to headline next year's event alongside the likes of Stormzy, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Liam Gallagher, Disclosure and Queens of the Stone Age.
Despite doubling their headline acts for next year's festivals across two main stages, achieving an equal gender split doesn't seem to be a priority. While other festivals in the UK and around the world have signed up to the Keychange initiative (which promotes a 50/50 gender split on lineups), Reading and Leeds have not.
