Music Venue Trust launches #TakeATest initiative as lockdown restrictions are eased in England
Today (19 July) the majority of lockdown restrictions in England have been lifted, and Music Venue Trust has launched its #TakeATest initiative to encourage gig-goers to take a COVID test before attending shows.
Following the UK government's decision to ease most lockdown restrictions in England from today (19 July), Music Venue Trust is urging individual gig-goers to take responsibility and have a voluntary lateral flow test before attending a show with its new #TakeATest initiative.
Today (19 July) marks the first time in over 16 months that grassroots music venues across the country can host full capacity shows, and while COVID cases are rising, the #TakeATest initiative is calling on people to be kind and respectful as the live music inndustry gets back on its feet.
Music Venue Trust CEO Mark Davyd says, "We have spoken at length to our community about reopening venues safely as restrictions are lifted, and whilst there are differing opinions on some aspects of how we will achieve this there is a consensus about asking music fans to accept personal responsibility to keep themselves and others safe. We have an opportunity through this strong, unified #takeatest messaging across the live music sector to persuade audiences to accept that responsibility and to take a lateral flow test before attending. This is a voluntary initiative that speaks to the sense of community across the grassroots live music sector. We are confident that live music fans will respond positively to this direct appeal from venues, promoters, artists and their fellow gig-goers."
The artists are taking a test. The crew are taking a test. The staff are taking a test. That just leaves you, the audience to make your decision.
