Mixcloud launches premium service and puts restrictions on free users
Mixcloud has revealed its new premium subscription service, and have also introduced restrictions for free users.
According to FACT, free users will now only be able to skip forward on mixes, and can only replay the same mix three times in the space of two weeks. Free users will no longer be able to access mixes that feature four tracks by the same artist, or three tracks from a particular album.
The streaming service revealed the reason behind their new limitations, stating it's to "keep up with the costs of running a streaming service that puts artists and creators at its core", and "to build a sustainable platform that will be here for you in the long term."
Mixcloud's premium service, called Mixcloud Select, will be available for $7.99 a month, and gives users unlimited access to public shows and mixes.
According to the a Mixcloud blog post, 70% of the money made from the subscription service will go to artists and songwriters, 25% of the income will go to Mixcloud, and the other 5% will go on transaction fees.
