#Merky Books looking to expand team with new Assistant Editor
#Merky Books, a publishing imprint created in collaboration with Stormzy and Penguin Random House, are searching for an Assistant Editor to expand their team.
Stormzy and Penguin Random House's #Merky Books imprint was launched in 2018 as a platform for rising literary talent.
Earlier this month, #Merky Books author Derek Owusu secured the Desmond Elliott prize for his debut novel That Reminds Me.
This week, a new job opportunity has opened up at #Merky Books. The team is seeking a new full-time Assistant Editor.
#Merky Books state that the Assistant Editor will be "responsible for a range of tasks from scheduling meetings, reading new submissions, editorial adjustments (structural and line editing) and managing production timelines." The company will provide "insight into the breadth of our Editorial structure and beyond. We’ll support you with your career development, and provide you with support and training to get to grips with in-house systems, and the publishing industry. No two days will be the same and your new role will vary, so being adaptable and proactive will help you to excel within this position."
Those applying will also need to answer two unique questions: "Which title published in 2019/2020 that is not a #Merky Books or Penguin Random House title do you think would sit well in our list and why?" and "Can you give us an example of a time when you have taken a project through from ideation to completion and explain the part you played in this?"
