Merge Records have shared the original master release sheet for Neutral Milk Hotel’s classic album, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.
The sheet shows that the band and label only initially expected to shift 5,500 CDs and 1,600 units on vinyl for an album that’s sold over 300,000 copies to date. ”It has sold more than we initially expected,” the label remarked on Facebook.
Other fun facts: frontman Jeff Mangum’s phone was (unsurprisingly) “disconnected” at the time of release and the record was originally self-titled.
