M.I.A documentary back in production, says SuperBowl middle finger was a “spiritual gesture”
With her new album out this week, it looks like M.I.A is already shifting her attention to other things – with her previously-abandoned documentary reportedly back in the works.
The project looked to be doomed when its director leaked the trailer and then publicly quit. Now, The Hollywood Reporter state that the whole thing is back on, with director Steve Loveridge seemingly back on board too.
Meanwhile, speaking to NPR recently, M.I.A also called the middle finger salute she gave at the SuperBowl (which may cost her $1.5 million) a “spiritual gesture”.
“It’s cultural! In my country, it’s godly. OK?,” she is quoted as saying. “Of course the NFL is not believing that, because the NFL does not believe in any other culture outside of the NFL.”
