Love Record Stores Day generates £1million in revenue for UK record shops
Love Record Stores Day took place over the weekend (20 June), and generated £1million in revenue for UK record stores.
Last Saturday (20 June), Love Record Stores Day took place instead of Record Store Day (which has been rescheduled and split across three days in August, September and October).
Over 80 new and reissued exclusive vinyl releases were available to buy, and Music News reports that almost 50,000 units were shipped to over 130 independent and hmv stores for the event.
Music News also adds that a survey of participating retailers revealed that the large majority of releases were sold out within one hour of being made available online on Saturday (20 June).
The Love Record Stores Day event generated £1million in revenue for participating stores.
Jason Rackham, the Managing Director of PIAS and one of the event co-organisers, said, "We had really high hopes for our #LoveRecordStores event, but things exceeded even our most ambitious expectations. The feedback we’ve had from participating record stores has been phenomenal with reports of some doing a month’s business in less than an hour on Saturday. We always hoped this event would give record stores a boost and it’s definitely done that."
Rupert Morrison, of Drift Records in Totnes said of the event, "The online traffic on Saturday was insane. We sold a month’s worth of records in 29 minutes. I am stunned by how amazing and successful this event was."
