Lollapalooza announces inaugural Berlin festival for 2015
One of the giants of the festival season, Lollapalooza has played host to some of the most iconic acts and shows in recent memory.
They've now decided to open up the first European franchise of the event, with the traditional Chicago gala still at the vanguard and the three South American festivals following swiftly behind.
Lollapalooza Berlin has yet to confirm any acts, but the date and location have been cemented: Berlin's Tempelhof Airport 12-13 September 2015. Lollapalooza is being brought to Berlin by Festival Republic, the team behind Reading and Leeds, and Melt! Booking.
Festival Republic's Melvin Benn has said of the decision:
“Over two decades since its inception, Lollapalooza is more than ready to break new ground and bring the experience to new audiences, offering not just music, but fashion, food, plus an environmental awareness that is so important in the future of music festivals. Working with C3 and Melt! Booking to bring the Lollapalooza brand to Europe gives me great pleasure in not only building upon my relationship with these global partners but allows me to return to the iconic Templehof site in September.”
Perry Farrell - formerly of Jane's Addiction and the brand's founder - has also commented on the move:
“I’m extremely excited to finally bring Lollapalooza across the pond to Europe. Berlin’s energy, vibrant art, fashion and music scenes are a mirror reflection of what Lollapalooza is all about and I can’t wait to share in this cultural exchange.”
