Listen to the first new track from the Pixies in ten years

Pixies have released a brand new track, their first in almost ten years.

The sparse call and response jam ‘Bagboy’ was announced via the band’s Facebook moments ago and is free to download via the Pixies website. You can also listen to the track below.

Black Francis has spoken out about the track, explaining, “The lyrics, coincidentally, were composed at a Starbucks Coffee in Harvard Square in Cambridge, about a hundred feet from where, 25 years ago, I composed some of the lyrics to an old Pixies song called ‘Break My Body.’

“Twenty-five years later, some Starbucks in Harvard Square…I thought that was kind of interesting. The music for the song has been around for a few years. There are some demos I made with Joey and David a few years ago in Los Angeles, related to a film idea that still has yet to see the light of day, although work on the music continued. So a lot of the musical idea had been kicking around for awhile.

“It’s pretty simple, kind of a blues-based, two-note kind of thing, really.”

Only a week ago, bassist Kim Deal left the band after 25 years and Black confirmed earlier that Jeremy Dubs from The Bunnies provides extra vocal duties on the new track, which was cut at Rockfield Studios in Wales last Autumn.

Despite the new recording, it’ll stand as just a one off, however. As the band’s publicist has confirmed that their will be no new album, say CoS.
