Liars perform new cut 'Mess on a Mission' for Pitchfork
Experimental trio Liars revealed a brand new track at last month’s Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona, with the song in question captured live by the good folks from Pitchfork TV.
The clip sees art-rockers Angus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross talk about their current travails, as well as writing and recording WIXIW- that is, after opening with the rather morbid contemplation of their chances of survival in the event of an Alive-style air disaster.
“We’re going to play mostly new music that people haven’t heard yet,” says lead vocalist and guitarist Andrew, as he welcomed a new period of “writing music for the sake of it, and not having to designate it to a certain album or release.” We heard similar declarations following last month’s offerings of two new songs through their website.
‘Mess on a Mission’ takes a skittering techno drumbeat and builds it into a shrill crescendo, and can be seen in their Primavera performance below:
- Jordan Adetunji returns with "X n the City"
- R.E.M. announce five-track benefit EP, Radio Free Europe 2025
- Charli XCX, Neneh Cherry, Jordan Stephens, and more sign open letter of solidarity to trans community
- Moses Sumney, Yukimi Nagano, Obongjayar and Yussef Dayes to feature on Little Simz's forthcoming album, Lotus
- Palace and NoSo join lineup for Khruangbin's Gunnersbury Park show
- Mádé Kuti returns with new single, "I Won't Run Away"
