Kurt Cobain's Nirvana MTV Unplugged guitar to go up for auction next month
Kurt Cobain's guitar that he used in Nirvana's legendary 1993 MTV Unplugged session is going up for auction next month with a starting bid of $1million.
Cobain used a 1959 Martin D-18E guitar for the performance, which saw Nirvana play 14 tracks, including "About A Girl", "Pennyroyal Tea", "Come As You Are", David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold The World", and more.
The guitar will be the headline item at Julien’s Auctions' Music Icons event in Beverly Hills next month.
Darren Julien of Julien's Auctions says of the iconic item, "Julien’s Auctions is proud to offer this historic guitar from Kurt Cobain, who upended the music industry and pop culture at large with his mythic performance fronting Nirvana on MTV Unplugged in New York. This important guitar has earned its rightful place in rock‘n’roll history as the instrument played by one of rock’s most influential musicians and icons in one of the greatest and most memorable live performances of all time."
The 1959 Martin D-18E guitar is the second Cobain item from the Nirvana MTV Unplugged session to be auctioned off in the past year. Back in October 2019, Julien's Auctions sold Cobain's green cardigan for $334,000.
