Kim Shattuck reveals she was fired from the Pixies by phone
Earlier this month, Kim Shattuck announced her departure from the Pixies, replaced as bassist just earlier this week by Paz Lenchantin. Now, in a new interview, the musician discusses her shock at being fired from the group.
“I was surprised. Everything had gone well, the reviews were all good and the fans were super-nice about everything,” the bassist recently told NME. “We said goodbye at the airport and the following morning the manager called me and said: ‘The band has made the decision to go with another bass player.’ I was shocked.”
Shattuck describes a scene in Los Angeles when she jumped into the crowd only to be told by their manager that the “Pixies don’t do that”. However, she remains on good terms with the group.
“I would have preferred it is they told me face to face as a group, but they’re nice people. I’m still a fan of the Pixies!”
It may be worth keeping in mind that frontman Black Francis once broke up the band via fax.
Meanwhile, the Pixies will headline the Sunday leg of next year’s Field Day festival, as well as appear at Primavera 2014.
