Psych musician and Soft Machine member, Kevin Ayers has died at the age of 68.
The English singer-songwriter, part of the Canterbury scene, was a major influence on the ’60s psychedelic movement and worked with the likes of Syd Barrett, Robert Wyatt and more.
Ayers released one album with Soft Machine and several as a solo artist, his last being The Unfairground in 2007.
John Peel famously said of the musician: ”Kevin Ayers’ talent is so acute you could perform major eye surgery with it.”
He passed away in his sleep on Monday (18 February). Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this time.
