Katy Perry set to beat Lady Gaga to U.S number one spot
With both their songs rush-released after leaking over the weekend, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga find themselves in an unexpected chart showdown this week with the former’s ‘Roar’ up against the latter’s ‘Applause’.
But despite Gaga becoming almost accustomed to number one hit after number one hit, it looks likely that Perry will trump her when this week’s chart closes; ‘Roar’ expecting to shift 450,000 digital copies compared to that of 200,000 to 250,000 from ‘Applause’.
As Rolling Stone note, both acts are attempting to dethrone Robin Thicke and his ever-present hit ‘Blurred Lines’, which has been at the U.S top spot for 10 consecutive weeks now.
