Kanye West working on new project with Bret Easton Ellis following American Psycho-inspired promo
Last month, Kanye West posted a promo clip for his new album Yeezus inspired by a scene from the film American Psycho, featuring Keeping Up With The Kardashians cast members Scott Disick and Jonathan Cheban. Now it turns out, Kanye’s video was not only influenced by the original book’s author Bret Easton Ellis, but actually written by him too.
The transgressive fiction author, who published American Psycho back in 1991, told MTV recently that Kanye approached him personally out of the blue for collaboration on the promo, but things were very rushed and subject to change.
Ellis said:
“I just got a text one day… It said, ‘It’s Kanye, do you have time to rap? And then suddenly my phone rang and someone said, ‘Kanye got your number and he wants you to write this promo for Yeezus… And so we went back and forth and he wanted it done, like, that day. So I wrote it very quickly and they shot it two or three days later.”
Continuing:
“It all kind of just came together very, very quickly. And it was fun… We all had our problems with it, but ultimately the fact that Kanye liked it so much helped change whatever reservations we had.”
The writer also revealed that the pair have plans for an upcoming project, but isn’t giving too many details away. ”Kanye and I have been meeting about writing a script for him so that’s a project that’s kind of in the works,” he told the channel.
