Kanye West video projections shut down by police in Texas
Kanye West’s new album promotional campaign continued this weekend, with an additional series of video projections announced worldwide – following the handful that occurred earlier in the year. Not all went to plan in Houston, Texas, however, with the police reportedly shutting the show down.
West had planned to air his new video for ‘New Slaves’ at the Rothko Chapel on Saturday night, a holy landmark designed by and named after artist Mark Rothko. But, as The Guardian report, police officials arrived on the scene shortly before the screening and dispersed the crowd. Sources from Houston Chronicle say that the police “demanded everyone leave or be arrested for trespassing”.
MTV also suggest that another screening at the Alamo in San Antonio was shut down by police also, writing that “no permit had been issued for the projection which was to take place on the walls of the famous monument, and therefore the event did not go ahead”.
Kanye’s new record, Yeezus is expectedly to be released on 18 June. Watch the video in question below:
