Kanye West rejects American Idol role as it would “damage street cred”
Kanye West has been approached by American Idol TV execs to front the next season of the U.S talent show, with the rapper reportedly turning down a large sum offer.
Following departures by Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson from the show, the programme’s heads targeted the Yeezus star for a potential judge spot, which would have seen the rapper sitting alongside country singer Keith Urban.
However, West didn’t take so well to the idea. “He didn’t want to go that mainstream,” a source told U.S Weekly. “He didn’t want to lose any street cred. So he turned it down.”
Meanwhile, Kanye is set to make his first TV interview appearance since 2010 on Kris, the talk show of girlfriend Kim Kardashian’s mother.
