Kanye West promoters warned over falsely advertising “one-off” London show
AEG Live, the promoters behind Kanye West’s trio of shows at London’s Hammersmith Apollo earlier this year, have been criticised for advertising the first of those as a “one-off” event.
As CMU report, the UK Advertising Standards Authority have sent an email to AEG strongly warning them against continuing the same marketing tactics, following the announcement of a supposedly “rare” show on Sunday 24 February coming shortly before two others announced for the Saturday and then 1 March.
The ASA have told the company that this initial claim was “misleading”, writing: “Because two more concert dates were added which gave consumers further opportunities to buy tickets to attend a Kanye West concert, and those dates were announced only two days after the ad was sent out originally, we concluded the claim that Kanye West would perform a ‘one-off’ concert in the UK had not been substantiated and was misleading”.
AEG have responded that the additional dates were simply following a ‘extra dates by popular demand’ policy.
Kanye West recently released his new album Yeezus and is expected to tour on the back of it shortly.
