Kanye West criticised by Parkinson's Disease Foundation over 'Yeezus' lyric
Used to the controversy by now, Kanye West has found himself in hot water once again – this time facing the wrath of the American Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
The rapper has been criticised by the charity’s Vice President in an open letter regarding one of the lyrics in new album Yeezus, one which compares getting a party started to the involuntary movements from a sufferer of the illness.
Kathryn Whitford has called the words “distasteful and the product of obvious ignorance”, while Parkinson’s UK Chief Executive Steve Ford has said: “Kanye West has shown an inexcusable level of stupidity and cruelty towards people living with an incurable condition. Life with Parkinson’s is difficult enough without becoming fodder for insensitive celebrities, who should know better, looking for their next big hit.”
The full lyric in question is as follows, appearing in album opener ‘On Sight’:
“A monster about to come alive again
Soon as I pull up and park the Benz
We get this bitch shaking like Parkinson’s”
Yeezus was released in the U.S earlier this week and comes out physically in the UK on Monday.
