Julien Baker announces new record Turn Out The Lights and shares lead single "Appointments"
US singer/songwriter Julien Baker has shared "Appointments", the first single from upcoming second record Turn Out The Lights.
The new long-player follows 2015's Sprained Ankle and was recorded at Memphis, Tennessee's Ardent Studios. Baker produced Turn Out The Lights with Craig Silvey (Arcade Fire, The National) on mixing duties.
21-year-old Baker steers slightly away from the guitar on the record, which features piano, strings, and woodwind embellishments.
"A lot of stuff happened in my life that was rapid change, and it felt like it could not get any worse," Baker says of the themes found in lead single "Appointments". "I was like, I have reached critical mass for this amoeba of sadness and it cannot possibly turn out all right. But for the sake of my continuing to exist, I have to believe that it will."
Baker plays a string of European shows in November, including a handful in the UK - find out more.
