John Frusciante played his first show in 13 years with Red Hot Chili Peppers over the weekend
Over the weekend, Red Hot Chili Peppers performed their first show in 13 years with returning guitarist John Frusciante as part of the Andrew Burkle memorial show.
Back in December 2019, Red Hot Chili Peppers announced the return of longtime guitarist John Frusciante.
Josh Klinghoffer departed the band after Frusciante was revealed to be returning to the group.
Over the weekend, RHCP performed for the first time with Frusciante since 2007, as part of Andrew Burkle's memorial show.
Legendary skater Tony Hawk posted clips of RHCP performing together on Instagram, and wrote, "A perfect example of Andrew’s magnetism was displayed this afternoon when this all-star lineup came together to perform Iggy Pop and Gang Of Four (and RHCP) songs in his honor. Thank you Andrew, we will miss you beyond words."

Klinghoffer spoke about his departure from the band on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast. He said, "I rode my bike over [to bassist Flea’s house]. They just said, 'We’ll get right to it. We’ve decided to ask John to come back to the band.' And I just sat there quiet for a second and I said, 'I’m not surprised'."
He went on to describe the conversation as "really sweet", and added, "It’s absolutely John’s place to be in that band. So that’s why I’m happy for him. I’m happy that he’s back with them."
