Joe Armon-Jones gives Asheber collab "No Weapon" an official release five years after Grenfell fire
Ezra Collective's Joe Armon-Jones has given his Asheber collaboration "No Weapon" an official release to mark the fifth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire, and is donating all profits to One Voice Community Collective.
Armon-Jones and Asheber have included "No Weapon" in previous live sets, but today (14 June) Armon-Jones has given the song an official release, to coincide with the five-year anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire.
The song features Moses Boyd on drums, Nubya Garcia and James Mollison on saxophone, Oscar Jerome on guitar, PYJÆN's Dylan Jones on trumpet and more. All profits from the song will be donated to One Voice Community Collective.
In the video description, Armon-Jones wrote, "This previously unreleased tune was written in the months following the Grenfell fire and is also in reference to the corporative regeneration and gentrification of inner city communities which lies at the root cause of how and why the fire happened. The song has been played regularly at gigs for years."
"Now that we have reached five years since the fire and no one has been held accountable, arrested or jailed for the crimes committed we bring you this inspirational revolutionary mantra," the statement continued. "We release this tune to commemorate those lost and to put pressure on those responsible in what should be considered a joint enterprise."
Armon-Jones added, "The vocal was written and performed by Niles 'Asheber' Hailstones who is a resident of the area affected and also contributed towards the grassroots community response and relief effort in the wake of the fire."
