Jay Z's label Roc Nation suing Rita Ora for breach of contract

01 February 2016, 18:26 | Written by Laurence Day

Jay Z's label Roc Nation is reportedly suing Rita Ora for "breaking her recording contract and failing to deliver promised albums."

It's worth noting the Jay himself appears to be removed from the matter, with Ora's attorney Howard King saying: “Jay Z has personally and graciously promised Rita complete freedom from Roc Nation, the details of which are now being finalized. We believe that Roc Nation’s distributor, Sony Music, has required Roc Nation to file this action to preserve whatever rights Sony might have pending resolution."

The $2.4 million suit has been filed in Manhattan, and is seemingly a response to Ora's own lawsuit against Roc Nation. She claims that the label neglected her career when they shifted focus to pro athletes.

However, Roc Nation say that have funnelled over $2 million into Ora's career: "[the label] has tirelessly promoted [her] career, investing millions of dollars in marketing, recording and other costs, which was instrumental in guiding Ms. Ora to her current level of success and fame.”

They also claim that Ora was supposed to release five records with them, but since 2008 has only released one.
